April is music month

I've been telling myself that the first month where the weather permits, I will set myself the task of writing and recording some songs. Three seems a reasonable number.

Today I started, and I'm not displeased with the results so far. Even my singing isn't as bad as I might've feared (then again, that's not saying much). The first song has as working title IVORY TOWER.

Here's a crappy sounding mp3...

Here's a much better quality (but much bigger - 6.7MB) aif...

Lyrics

YOU FEEL SO SMUG
IN YOUR IVORY TOWER
THINKING ALL THE WHILE
YOU'VE GOT ALL THE POWER

(BUT) I CAN TAKE IT AWAY (just as fast as it came)
ALMOST ANY TIME I CHOOSE (then there'd be nothing more to lose)
AS FAST AS IT CAME (i can take it away)
THEN THERE'D BE NOTHING MORE TO LOSE (almost any time i choose)

PS: the drums are a GarageBand loop, the rest is all me. Once the song is finished, and I have practised my drumming, I'll lay those down as well...

Who am I kidding, that singing was awful... Strange, though, on Saturday it sounded okay, then on Sunday I wasn't sure and today it sounded plain awful. But I think I've figured out why. I think I naturally sing about a semitone below where I want to be. So all's I got to do it try to sing a semitone above where I think I should be and I'll be right on target. Easypeasy.

semitone - radiosonde - tracback pings.

Ok your vocals aren't 'perfect' but the lyrics are.

I once did a track just strumming a spanish guitar - more or less in the same tempo

Tell me, tell me now
tell me, tell me how
tell me, here & now

Where are those advantages
those promised advantages
the ones I've read in pages
in many books through the ages

The one's that open cages
and let loose all the rages
if they don't pay me my wages

Tell me where are they now
those who wanted me to bow
to some guilded holy cow
and work & pull the plough

Yes, they all fell and how
for the worms they are chow

With a loud clang & a big bang
no need to use anymore slang
they shall all from high hang
and my heart not miss a pang
